Four types of accessibility evaluations are available:
- Template Evaluation:
A detailed evaluation of a number of page templates used throughout a site is provided along with general guidelines for authoring accessible content. This evaluation is useful during the site development phase, but will also be useful for developers modifying existing sites to meet WAI accessibility standards. This tends to be the most economical evaluation, and the most effective, addressing access barriers before they are created, or finding "quick fixes" that correct site-wide accessibility problems.
- General Evaluation:
Based on a full review of an existing site or one late in it's development, site-wide barriers are reported, and where appropriate, techniques that correct these barriers are outlined. This evaluation is meant to offer Web designers a set of site specific guidelines that can be applied throughout a site to improve its accessibility.
- Detailed Evaluation:
In addition to the report included with the General Evaluation, the content of every unique page on a site is evaluated and a detailed report of all barriers is prepared, including WAI references and solutions. This evaluation is useful for sites that must be highly accessible, serving specific groups that require accessible content. It will also be useful for designers developing their knowledge of accessibility issues.
- Follow-Up Evaluation:
After correcting barriers identified in the General or Detailed Evaluations, the Follow-Up Evaluation provides a review of a site at completion, reporting on any new or outstanding access barriers. An Accessibility Seal is issued based on the outcome of the Follow-Up Evaluation and any final modifications required.
