Accessibility Features on This Site
The Web-savvy site will be completely accessible to users of any currently available browsers or
adaptive technology. Access features embedded in the structure and overall design of the site
include:
- ALT text for all simple images, graphical navigation links, and map areas (all browsers)
- Long description for all complex images using the LONGDESC attribute, as well as D-links (all browsers support D-links)
- Alternative text links at the bottom of each page, equivalent to those found in the image
maps and graphical buttons.(all browsers)
- The use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to layout columns, rather than using tables (all 4.+ browsers)
- Invisible navigation bypass link in the top right corner that allows a screen reader user to
jump past the navigation links at the top of the page, and go directly to the content of the
page. (all browsers)
- Invisible content bypass link, next to the navigation bypass link, allows a screen reader
user to jump directly to the accessible text navigation at the bottom of the page (all
browsers).
- Consistent page layout, including hierarchical use of page headings, and navigation
elements (all browsers)
- A text Site-map that allows a user to develop a picture of the content and layout of the
site. The site-map offers a central navigation point, and along with the site-map link in
the buttons at the top and the text links at the bottom, all significant pages on the site are
no more than two links away (all browsers).
- Navigation links directly accessible by a key press using the ACCESSKEY attribute
(currently available only in Internet Explorer 4+). Pressing the key combinations below
will bring focus to the corresponding link, after which the Enter key is pressed to activate
the link.
